Topic 2: Irish Shipwreck Exploration – A Diver’s Guide
We are currently in the golden age of shipwreck exploration & discovery. Tech divers have an ever growing list of bucket-list dives but the fact remains, we have only discovered & dived a fraction of these shipwrecks. This presentation takes a practical view at what is involved in exploring wrecks like HMS Curacoa, HMS Hurst Castle, HMS Justicia & the U-boats that attacked her. Barry details the challenges involved & the techniques used to capture the wrecks using photography & videography techniques.

Topic 2: A Tale of Liners & Battleships - RMS Lusitania & HMS Audacious
Waters surrounding Ireland had some of the most significant maritime losses during both World Wars. Convoys coming from North America to the UK were a primary target. It has left an indelible mark on the underwater Irish landscape. Barry focuses on 2 losses: 1^st, Cunard Liner R.M.S. Lusitania, who’s sinking caused a storm of protest in the US (128 US citizens among the dead). This sinking helped shift public opinion in the US against Germany, & was a factor in the US's declaration of war 2 years later. 2^nd, the sinking of H.M.S. Audacious, the last King George V-class dreadnought battleship built for the Royal Navy in the 1910s.

Topic 1: High Altitude Fizziology
Cousteau setting the world high altitude dive record in 1968, the current world record, and popular altitude dive locations today. Issues specific to high altitude diving (compensation for incorrect depths, etc) & describe his experiences: instructor course at 5,000 ft in Johannesburg, first diving experiment in Colorado, (in a lake at 10,000 ft), diving with the Bolivian Navy in Lake Titicaca (14,400 ft), and a NASA experiment where Peter went to 30,300 ft in a hypobaric chamber, which is 2,000 ft higher than Everest. Discovery awaits the brave!
