Lesley Hillyer

Lesley has been diving regularly for over 25 years, almost entirely on shipwrecks in Australia and overseas. She lives in southern Sydney and is the proprietor of the wetsuit and drysuit repair business, Aquasea Underwater Products.

Having initially trained as an English teacher, Lesley had a long career in IT, from programming, through project development and IT Management. In late 1993 she took a sea change and bought Shiprock Dive, a significant challenge having not had a dive for about 10 years. In 2003, she combined Aquasea Underwater Products and Shiprock Dive together, before selling the dive shop in 2006 to focus on Aquasea.

Lesley commenced diving with Max Gleeson in 1996, collaborating on wreck photography and wreck history before they made the logical progression to videography. He films, she swims around in front of the camera…

Together they have produced a number of documentaries on Australian and overseas wrecks, an enormous undertaking for a production team of two. In 2011 they commenced their largest project to date, a two part series on the wrecks of Truk Lagoon. Part I of the series covering the most popular wrecks was released in 2013, and Part II which showcases the deeper and lesser known wrecks, is approaching completion.

Away from diving, Lesley coaches children’s athletics, specialising in sprints and relays. She has an adult son and daughter, two whippets, and enjoys bushwalking, caving, her garden and is a long-suffering Wallabies supporter.
