Shane Wasik

Shane Wasik, a Scot currently based in New Zealand, has been diving since 1996 when he joined the British Sub-Aqua Club as a teenager. Progressing through the ranks, he is now qualified as a First Class Diver and Advanced Instructor. Studying Marine Biology at university he qualified in scientific and commercial diving in 2001 and giving up on the early days of deep air recklessness moved onto trimix and rebreathers, currently he is diving on a Inspiration. Having spend nearly 9 weeks of his life underwater, he is happy whether it be search&recovery in a murky pond, stunt diving for the BBC, feeding sharks at the aquarium or finding bells on virgin wrecks deep off the Scottish coast!

Giving up on the rufty tufty commercial diving work after a cold Scottish morning with the air at -15deg, the water at 3deg, his flask breaking on the way out and his gloves has frozen thick before he jumped in with 4 hours diving ahead of him, he decided to move to New Zealand, searching for some better weather, visibility and sharks! Scottish diving is still his favorite and with 4 deep virgin wecks and 3 bells in one year - that record is hard to beat anywhere in the world. Shane currently works in environmental monitoring with photography as a part time occupation. You can see his work at www.shanewasik.com
