Salih Murat Egi

S. Murat Egi was born in Istanbul, Turkey and has been a diving Instructor since 1986, During which time he has certified more than 2000 divers at different levels. He is an Electrical Engineer (BS), and completed his MSc and Ph.D. studies on Biomedical Engineering.

He was a member of the Turkish Underwater Federation Training Committee and is a co-author of the Federation's "One Star Diver CMAS/SCSPF Manual". He organized the first "Underwater Science and Technology" meeting in 1996 in Istanbul. He planned and directed 7 high altitude diving expedition where 500 dives were accomplished without any case of decompression sickness at altitudes ranging from 7260 to 13 200 ft.

He completed his Ph.D. studies in 1999 on "The Evaluation of Altitude Decompression Procedures and Development of New decompression Strategies. He is writing for a monthly Turkish underwater magazine and has articles on decompression computation published in several proceedings of EUBS (European Underwater and Baromedical Society) and UHMS (Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society). He is a regular participant of the annual EUBS meetings since 1992. S. Murat Egi is a CMAS Instructor Trainer since 1995 and has joined NAUI as an Instructor in 1999 and is an Emeritus Instructor Trainer since 2004. He is also an active Rebreather Instructor and DAN Instructor. He directed Istanbul University Department of Underwater Technology for three years (from 2000-2003). From 2003 until now, he is the Vice head of Department of Computer Engineering at Galatasaray Univeristy. His main research interests are mainly Rebreathers, Decompression Modeling, Bioengineering aspects of diving medicine and anything related to the underwater world.
